What it does

Typed answer grading

Learners type full Arabic answers to fill-in-the-blank, translation and sentence-construction exercises. Grading judges meaning and grammar rather than matching strings, so valid synonyms, alternative word order and spelling variants (alef and hamza forms, ta marbuta) are accepted.

Handwriting grading from a photo

The learner writes an answer on paper, photographs it, and Hady reads the Arabic handwriting and grades it, keeping the pen part of how the language is learned.

Pronunciation grading

The learner records a short clip and receives feedback per word and per sound, naming the specific sound to correct rather than returning only a percentage.

Spaced-repetition vocabulary

Vocabulary is scheduled with FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler), practised in both directions, Arabic to English and English to Arabic.

Structured curriculum

One complete course followed lesson by lesson, with bilingual grammar notes and a supporting video per lesson, rather than a stream of unconnected phrases.

What makes it different

Most Arabic learning apps test recognition: the learner picks the right answer from a list. Hady asks the learner to produce Arabic and then marks what they produced. Three kinds of answer are graded: typed, handwritten and spoken. It also teaches one complete curriculum from beginning to end rather than a stream of unconnected phrases.

Who it is for, and who it is not for

Hady is for English speakers who want to understand Quranic and classical Arabic: complete beginners through intermediate learners, students of the Madinah Books, and anyone who can recite the Quran but cannot follow its meaning.

It is not for learning a spoken dialect. Hady teaches Modern Standard and classical Arabic, not Egyptian, Levantine, Gulf or Maghrebi dialect. Someone whose goal is everyday conversation in a dialect is better served elsewhere. Hady also assumes the learner can already recognise the Arabic letters and sound out a word slowly; it does not currently teach the alphabet from zero.

The curriculum

The course follows دروس اللغة العربية (Duroos al-Lughah al-Arabiyyah), the Madinah Books, Books 1 to 3, by Dr. V. Abdur Rahim, used with permission. The books were developed for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers at the Islamic University of Madinah. Hady follows the same lesson order and adds what a printed book cannot do: grading, correction and scheduled review. The book content in the app is free.

Brand and assets

The name is written Hady, from the Arabic هادي, meaning "the guide". The wordmark is styled lowercase with a full stop: hady. Please write the app's full name as "Hady: Learn Arabic for Quran" on first mention.
